How old was Martin Luther King Jr. at the time of his death?
He was only 39 years old when he was assassinated on the 4th of April, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on the 15th of January, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He received the Noble Peace prize in 1964. Martin was a well-known Baptist Pastor, Humanitarian, Civil Rights advocate and a man who believed in peaceful protests. He proved commitment to his ideas in his numerous marches and speeches. He preached and practiced what he preached.

His was not a wasted life. He accomplished a great deal. What it was, was a great life cut short, but what he did in his brief time here was not a waste.

Coretta Scott King accepted an honorary membership from Prince Hall Freemasonry for her late husband.
It does seem to have been Dr. King's intention to become a Mason. Both his father and his grandfather were Prince Hall Masons, and Prince Hall documents indicate that Grand Master X. L. Neal had arranged for Dr. King to become a Freemason upon his return from Atlanta in 1968. Unfortunately, his assassination in Memphis on April 4th, 1968 prevented that from happening.
So was Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. a Freemason? No. He was never raised a Master Mason. But Dr. King most likely would have made a fine Mason. After all, he was a builder and his legacy has forever changed the world.
