Martinique, Réunion and (French) Guiana are ALSO part of the European Union (it's what the local denizens want). The contrast between Guiana and its two adjacent namesakes, Suriname (formally Dutch Guiana) and (British) Guyana is quite marked.

France has this ideological mind-block that says its overseas dependencies (Colonies) are part of continental France. A look at a map will show the unbiased enquirer that they across oceans and seas away from France, but don't mention that to the French.
