On which Hawaiian island is Pearl Harbor located?

Pearl Harbor is a lagoon harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands is a United States Navy deep-water naval base.

This place is well-known for the Battle of Pearl Harbor, which became a cause of the United States' entry into WWII. On the morning of the 7th of December, 1941, the Empire of Japan launched an attack on American bases without warning. 2,335 American servicemen died during the attack. The next day after the battle the US declared war on Japan, and several days after Italy and Germany declared war on the US. Some historians believe that American government and British government as well knew about the attack and did nothing to prevent it for the purpose of entering the war. Anyway, most scholars and researchers usually reject such a theory.

If you ever get the opportunity to visit Pearl Harbour, make sure you do! It's an incredible sight to see, and you'll walk away, from there, a completely different person...I guarantee it! I was there, with my parents and older sister, in June, 1970, and it's definitely something I'll never forget. Even to this day, when I think about all the Men, on the USS ARIZONA, who lost their lives, and who are still emtombed inside the USS ARIZONA, it brings tears, to my eyes, knowing that their families never got to say goodbye, to them, nor give them a proper burial. So sad...So very, very sad! My late, beloved Father had a good friend, who was stationed at Pearl Harbour, when it was attacked. He was one of the lucky ones, who survived the bombings, and he was also one of the Navy Pilots, who went after the Japanese, after the attack. I know he shot down some of the Japanese War Planes, but can't remember how many, and since he's been gone, a long time, I can't ask him. So, if you ever get a chance, I highly recommend visiting Pearl Harbour! You won't regret it!

War.. ANY War is terrible.. And I too have walked the memorial of the Arizona and shed tears over my fellow brothers. During my Navy career (over 20 years) I had the opportunity to visit there several times. One time as our ship was pulling in, we were a bit taken aback to see the flags of the Japanese fleet flying on about 10 vessels docked at the Navy Base across from the Arizona. Now..talk about heads going back and forth! But.. We NEVER had ONE bad incident! Those troops couldn't have been more respectful! This was in the early 90's. And... What some of you may be forgetting... How many Japanese/American families.. Innocent... Families were sent to POW camps IN AMERICA.. For no reason other than they were Japanese living in America? Yet, they harbor rd no ill will when released? Or, most didn't? They lost EVERYTHING !!! There was no trial.. Simply rounded up and sent to a camp! With maybe a suitcase of clothes ! Right here in the United States! Let's Stop hating! Let's check people BEFORE they immigrate!! And that would not have to be done again !

I think, and it's just my take on the situation, the Japanese made a huge mistake strategically in making a "sneak" attack on the United States. In the long run "They awoke a sleeping (industrial) giant". In the tactical sense they didn't sink any of the Aircraft Carriers that were stationed there or blow-up and burn the drydocks or oil field that was there. All of which would come back to haunt them very soon.

78 years ago now. There are still a few (very few!) Vets who go to the memorial a couple of days a week. Our granddaughter was fortunate to meet one 2 years ago. You won’t be disappointed you took the time to visit this sacred spot of our history.
