The metal "copper" takes its name from an island

In the Roman era, copper was principally mined on Cyprus. This provided the origin of the name of the metal: the Latin "aes сyprium" (metal of Cyprus) was later corrupted to "сuprum", from which the words copper (English), cuivre (French), Koper (Dutch) and Kupfer (German) are all derived.

I knew copper is cuprum, but didn't know it was derived from the name of the island of Cyprus from which it was mined. Knowlege of Latin and chemistry didn't help as much as knowing true/false are usually true lol. Good trivia knowledge for the future though, thanks!
