VW Beetles can float for several minutes.

VW Beetles aren't designed to be amphibious, but if by some stroke of luck you end up with your original Volkswagen Beetle in a body of water, there's a very good chance you'll float for a while. The Beetle is a unibody car with well sealed doors and few openings. As long as the floor pan isn't rusted through, the Beetle can float. Some ads in the 60s and 70s boasted that the Beetle will float for a whopping 42 minutes. We don't recommend trying this at home! Note: Volkswagen did make a Schwimmwagen, designed as an amphibious four wheel drive off road vehicle.

There was a car for the troops to use in Ww2 called a Kubelwagon. This used the Volkswagen chassis. A later version of it was produced for the American market - It was/is referred to as a Volkswagen Thing.

Had 3 beetles. My first one in Mexico it lasted 10 years drove it a million miles thru all kind of terrains never a problem. In miami had one super beetle that had 4 owners before me had it for almost 20 years. Great little car. Could turn on a dime. Easy to push if your battery went dead. But no floating on water experience. Cold in the winter and no AC in the summer. Wish they had not stop making it.

A road up the Matuki valley NZ crosses many streams and at one point used to go along the main river. After a heavy rain my friend in his VW got into a deeper spot ant it floated a fair way down river to a another bank. Had to be pulled off the bank by a farmer, but floating saved the car

VW is a god car. There was even a movie about the Beetle. I think it was a comedy.
