Herbie Flowers played the introduction, not only on bass guitar but also on double bass overdubbed. For those who like the technicalities apparently a major 10th harmony.

Klaus Voormann played bass guitar on other tracks on the album ("Perfect Day", "Goodnight Ladies", "Satellite of Love" and "Make Up").

David Bowie (along with Mick Ronson) produced the album and also played acoustic guitar and keyboards (as well as providing backing vocals) on “Walk on The Wild Side”, and also on “Wagon Wheel”.

As well as production of the album, Mick Ronson played lead guitar, piano, recorder and provided string arrangements.

As well as developing and playing the bass line for “Walk on The Wild Side” Herbie also played tuba on the track “Goodnight Ladies”. As Herbie was a session musician he was paid a relatively meagre rate for this contribution. He went on to work with David Bowie on other occasions, and was reputedly due to have played bass for the Spiders from Mars, but did not turn up. Nonetheless, Herbie has had an extensive career and is still very active as a musician, especially in the Sussex community where he lives. Herbie was a member of Blue Mink, T-Rex, CCS and Sky; the range of musicians he has played with is extensive.

Finally, Herbie is still known for his cheeky sense of humour, in December his house often has his tuba decked with Christmas lights in his front window.
