What are the major blood types?

Humans have 4 basic Blood Types: A, B, AB & O. For each type, there is a + (positive) & a - (negative). 45% of the population is either O+ or O-. 40% of the population is either A+ or A-. 10% is either B+ or B- and 5% is either AB+ or AB-. Type O- is called the Universal donor blood type and a person with type AB+ can receive Red blood cells as a Universal Recipient.

I'm O-, blood bank calls me all the time! I've donated just over 8 gallons so far!!

Was a blood donor for many years. However in Australia donating blood is not allowed over 70. Also blood is given for free we never get paid. You cannot sell your blood. I believe NZ is the same.

Deby Hackney, same O- . Donated a lot of plasma, have had to stop now b.c. of my own illnesses. My Father was B- and would donate for himself before heart operations, just in case.

Totally dislike any answers with no citations. Mostly using Wikipaedia is bad enough. I have seen TOTALLY WRONG answers in Wikipaedia. I guess it comes from writing a 200 page thesis where I had to cite everything.
