UK retailer Waitrose has teamed up with chef Heston Blumenthal to produce a Banana and Bacon Trifle for the 2016 Christmas market.

Heston Marc Blumenthal ( born 27 May 1966) is a British celebrity chef. He is the proprietor of The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, one of four restaurants in Great Britain to have three Michelin stars; it was voted No. 1 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2005.

Waitrose worked with Heston to create a truly special trifle with a real sense of humour,” said Aileen Wood, Waitrose Dessert Buyer. “His range of products at Waitrose often works with classic dishes he loved as a child, and this trifle is no exception. The bacon twist works incredibly well with the rest of the ingredients and fits perfectly into Heston’s innovative range of Christmas sweet treats.”

The retailer said that sales of ‘retro desserts’ such as trifle are up 34% compared to last year, while other family favourites such as profiteroles have undergone a makeover.
