What is Hachikō's breed?
Hachiko was born on the 10th of November, 1923 on a farm in Akita Prefecture and died on the 8th of March, 1935 in Shibuya.
An Akita dog
Hachiko was an Akita dog remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his master which continued for several years after his owner's death. The Japanese call him 忠犬ハチ公 (chūken Hachikō) which means "faithful dog Hachiko". He had been waiting for the return of his late owner for more than nine years.

The movie, "Hachi - A Dog's Tale", starring Richard Gere, is THE best dog movie EVER, IMHO! If you plan on watching (I think it's still on Netflix) be sure to bring tissues!

Becky Sharp, The most recent English language movie (2009) stared Richard Gere and was titled Hachi: A Dog's Tale. It was based on the Japanese movie Hachiko (1987). There have also been a few documentaries and books about this wonderful dog.
