What is necrotizing fasciitis?
Necrotizing fasciitis (also called flesh-eating bacteria) is an infection caused by bacteria. It can destroy skin, fat, and the tissue covering the muscles within a very short time. Such a disease is very serious and quite rare. If it occurs on the genitals, it is called fournier gangrene.
According to the depressing statistics, 1 of 4 people with necrotizing fasciitis die from it, even being completely healthy before getting it. It's important to cover wounds with bandages, never delay first aid and often wash your hands to avoid getting such an infection.

My younger daughter Luna, in the photo, had this 1 month after she was born. We didn't know how she got it. She was healthy until a high fever forced us to bring her to the hospital. That's when we discovered the problem when we had to change her diaper. Doctors had to give a cocktail of 3 different antibiotics. Critical was first 2 days of the 10 day program. Luckily she survived. But when she was 2 years old, we discovered she is non verbal autistic. She can understand and follow instruction. Has good eye contact but cant speak. She undergoes various therapies. We are happy to have her. We love Luna very much!

Necrotizing fasciitis is not a bacteria. It can be caused by a bacterial infection. It can also be caused by extreme inflammatory response to injury resulting in high pressure from fluid build up causing death of tissues. None of these choices is correct.

I worked in surgery for thirty yrs. and saw patients on occasion with this...coming to surgery for debridement of dead tissue....this is very aggressive and rapid onset, those whom do survive go through a terrible ordeal.

As I read the question, I was thinking of the wrong root. I thought of nephro, related to the kidneys, so selected the groin inflammation, as I think that is the closest answer to skin, or fascia, by the kidneys given here. The other players reminded me that the question asked for necro, related to dead. Some other players said it is inflammation, caused by the disease, as Buhlemann. Thank you, Christine, James's wife
