Acoustic levitation (also called Acoustophoresis) is a process of keeping an object in suspension or just moving it using acoustic radiation pressure from intense sound waves in the medium.

It's hard to imagine that something so intangible as sound can lift objects, but it really does work. In our everyday life we just don't think about the vibrations sound may create in other objects. Acoustic levitation takes advantage of the properties of sound to cause solids, liquids and heavy gases to float. The process can take place in normal or reduced gravity.

Acoustic levitation is going to be used in different branches of industry in the very near future.
