What is the capital of Hungary?

Budapest is the capital and the biggest city of Hungary. It is also one of the largest and most visited cities in the European Union. More than 1.7 million people live in Budapest now. The modern territory of Budapest used to be occupied by three cities (Buda, Pest and Óbuda) located on the west and east banks of the Danube. After the unification on the 17th of November, 1873, Budapest became a large city occupying both banks. Today Budapest is the main political, commercial, cultural, business, educational and transportation center of Hungary. It is also considered one of the tourists' favorite European cities due to its beautiful historical sites mixed with modern infrastructure and a lot of places to go, from multi-functional shopping centers to upscale restaurants and museums of modern art and science.
