Bangladesh, with more than 171 million people (2016 estimate), is the eighth-most populated country in the world. It is a sovereign country in South Asia and is located at the apex of the Bay of Bengal. The country is bordered by India and Myanmar and separated from Nepal and Bhutan by the narrow Siliguri Corridor. It is also the fifth-most populous country in Asia and the third-most populous Muslim-majority country. The official Bengali language is the seventh-most spoken language in the world.

Bangladesh is the most populous country to have never won an Olympic medal. Part of the reason behind Bangladesh’s struggles is much of the nation’s sporting interest is focused solely upon cricket, which is not an Olympic sport.
