What is the longest river in Europe?
The Volga is the longest river in Europe; it is also Europe's largest river in terms of discharge and watershed. It flows through central Russia and into the Caspian Sea, and is widely viewed as the national river of Russia.

Went on a river cruise on The Volga during a Baltic Cruise and it was cut short by several speedboats with loud halers zooming up and down telling everyone to get off the river. As t was all happening in Russian we had to ask what was happening and Presiden Putin was apparently coming along the river and wanted it vacated.
It would have been a lot less fuss and less noticable if he had just sailed up quietly and passed the other boats no one would have known he was there

David de Tremaudan, The Volga is in western Russia, which is in Europe. The Ural Mountains marks the dividing line between Europe and Asia.

The Danube should have been an option.

It starts in a tiny creek and eventually flows into the wide and long river. I saw its place of “birth”, quite amazing!

In your description, you state that the Volga runs through Russia, which it does. Russia is not part of "Europe' - it is part of the Asian continent.

Susanna Viljanen, historically, Europe extends to the Ural Mountains just east of Moscow. However, it is only a political boundary because there really is no demarcation line. Europe just melds into Asia. That being said, Russia for centuries, has pushed very hard to make sure that boundary line is recognized. They want to be included as part of Europe.

Denise Currie, For some reason, I don't think Putin has ever craved anonymity.
