Sorry, but you are wrong about that. Adding succeeding odd numbers will ALWAYS work, too. Those numbers are the differences between succeeding squares. There are at least two ways to correctly solve this problem and each will always yield the same correct answer!

Christian Matthews, Your common core maths is not that old. When I was younger if we got the answer right no matter how you got it right, (aside from cheating) then it was right. There is always more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak.

SO if common core maths didn't exist when I was a child all my teachers were wrong? Common core has only existed a short while Maths in the form i learned has existed for centuries.

No. Trivia can be anything. Exclude one thing might as well exclude everything. If we all got every question right it wouldn't be worth playing. Learning something new or finding out that you know something you didn't know you knew is what makes it fun.

wdbfnad, that's exactly the way I did it, butbitvtook me a while... Never been good at math, funny as I'm a carpenter & I deal with numbers all day.

I guessed ! Math is a no-go area for me.

I'm not sure that maths questions can be considered trivia. This requires a mathematical ability rather than general knowledge. Anyone else agree?
