What language is commonly spoken in Brazil?

Many people believe that they speak Spanish in Brazil, but the commonly used language of the country is Portuguese. Such a mistake can take place because of a lot of similarities between these languages, especially for an inexperienced listener.

My cousin and her husband were Ambassadors to Brazil and all their kids my cousins all speak Portuguese
