What two boroughs of NYC does the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge connect?

The Verrazano–Narrows Bridge (sometimes called simply the Verrazano Bridge) is a double-decked suspension bridge that connects the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn. It spans the Narrows, a body of water connecting the relatively protected upper bay with the larger, wide open lower bay.

The bridge is named for the Florentine explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, whose name is misspelled on the bridge, as well as for the Narrows.

Jennifer Dynes, I lived in Brooklyn for 15 years but I live in my native State of Louisiana. I was young then(17 until 32) and I will never forget the city and I don't want to because I love it.

Linda Pompa, correction, my dear. Governor Chris Christy was accused of ordering traffic to be held up on the George Washington Bridge which runs from Manhattan to Fort Lee NJ. The GW bridge was shown in the Godfather I movie. Note: Many New Yorkers refer to George Washington Bridge as the "GW Bridge".

Jannie Waller, what an attitude you have. This bridge is one of the important landmarks in the NYC metropolitan area and likely means a lot to many people. I am from Louisiana but I spent 15 years living near the bridge especially during the three years when it was being built(1962-1965). Must you be so negative? One post says it was made famous in the movie, Saturday Night Fever. But the bridge was already famous as it was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it was opened in 1965. Poster skrueger is correct, the New York marathon starts on Staten Island and is run over the Verrazano Narrows bridge to Brooklyn and then on to Manhattan.

I got to run across this bridge as the NYC Marathon starts in Staten Island and uses this bridge to cross over to Brooklyn. Beautiful views of the water and boats.

I've crossed it dozens of times but it doesn't old a candle to "The Golden Gate Bridge" but then I doubt there is a tradition of jumping off the darn thing.
