What type of plant is pictured here?

Clivia plants are native to South Africa and they grow naturally in woodland area, so are happier in a shady position. The common form is the orange Clivia miniata as shown in the photo. They are frost sensitive, so are unsuitable for places that have temperatures below 6°C. They do, however, make an attractive and easy to grow houseplant in colder climates.

Cross-breeding means plants can produce stunning blooms, which vary in color from pale yellow through to orange or peach and even red. The trumpet-like flowers are similar to that of Amaryllis but smaller. Unlike the Amaryllis, Clivias retain their foliage year round.
