Johnny Allen Hendrix was born on the 27th of November 1942. He was later renamed James Marshall by his father. Jimi's father gave the musician his first inspiration: being very proud of his son's interest in music, he bought the boy his first 5$ guitar - and that's how it began.

In 1961, he left home to enlist in the United States Army and soon earned the right to wear the "Screaming Eagles" patch for the paratroop division. Only after being discharged due to an injury, he began working as a session guitarist!
