What was the first MLB team to win 10,000 games?

On July 14, 2005 the San Francisco Giants beat the hated Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 for the franchise's 10,000th win. The Giants, which moved to the Bay Area in 1959, are the first MLB team to win 10,000 games in history. The Giants were founded in New York in 1883. Since notching this milestone, the club has won three World Series 2010, 2012, 2014, bringing the franchise's total to eight (they won in 1905, 1922, 1923, 1933 and 1954 while playing in the Polo Grounds in New York City.)

The Cubs, Braves, Dodgers, Reds, Pirates and Yankees also have 10,000 wins.

The franchise's move, along with the Dodgers, turned MLB into a coast-to-coast game and cleared the way for further expansion into Kansas City, Houston and later Colorado, Arizona, Washington and Minnesota.

james parrillo, Sadly, for me, "cricket" remains Jiminy--I have trouble understanding the game.

Lorna Lake, In addition, New York also has a football, American football, team named the Giants. Most Americans would know that the combination of other names was referring to baseball, as you mentioned. I am trying very studiously to understand cricket, which was only a name to me, before several QuizzClub questions about that sport. Have a great day! Christine, James's wife

Lorna Lake, MLB means Major League Baseball, but I can understand that people outside the United States of America might not recognize that acronym. I chose the second answer, because my grandfather told me he watched the Giants when they were stationed in New York. Many people chose the last option, because the Yankees have done very well lately. The Giants must have been in NY before the Yankees. The explanation mentions that all the options have won 10,000 games. The Giants were just first.

These are my boys! But the way they've been playing the last couple of seasons, one would never know they were the first 10k game winners. Yeah, yeah, rebuilding. They been saying that since the Post Bonds era.

FYI--Giants won WS in 1921, but the Yankees won their first in 1923. These two teams played the Series 1921-1923. 1923 was the first year Yankee Stadium was open. 21-22. entire WS were played at the Polo Grounds.

Yep, agreed. MLB means absolutely nothing to us Brits. No more than a cricketing term would make sense to an American. Non discriminatory questions please!....not that we'd know the answer....
