Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery was born on the 17th of November, 1887. He is well-known by his nickname "Monty" and is widely considered the most famous British general of WWII. Montgomery is also one of the most decorated leaders of the war.

During the Second World War he commanded the British Eighth Army from August 1942 in the Western Desert until the final Allied victory in Tunisia. Montgomery led his troops to victory in the Second Battle of El Alamein, which became a turning point in the Western Desert Campaign. The general is best known for this very event.

Bernard was born to a modest Irish family. His mother was very strict and autocratic, and young Bernard suffered a lot from it. Montgomery was a strict teetotaler and had an aversion for smoking.
