What was the first television quiz show?
Spelling Bee became the first TV game show. It was first transmitted live from Alexandra Palace in London and hosted by Freddie Grisewood. The first episode lasted for 15 minutes and was broadcasted live on the the 31st of May, 1938. Its participants competed in a spelling game against the TV stars of those times.

You are partially right. They made no reference to ANY country. YOU were wrong to make the inference that they meant ONLY the US. THEY never said that!

standan, nothing in the question inferred US television. When no particular country is stipulated, one needs to assume ‘in the world’ (unless you’re arrogant or insular or both!).

Richard Payne, This is a World wide quiz, meaning other countries in the world too, NOT just the USA. In fact the percentage of participants compared to population is quite low in the States. A case of more doesn't always equal best.

Wrong again this was first transmitted in 1941 and Spelling Bee was transmitted in 1938. I had put Truth or Consequences as I had never heard of it, I though it must have been a long time ago, but when it came back as wrong I did some checking.
