During a public exhibition at Westminster Central Hall on March 20, 1966, the World Cup trophy (known as Jules Rimet trophy from 1930 to 1970) was stolen. Seven days later it was found under a hedge on Beulah Hill, Upper Norwood, South London by a mixed breed collie dog named Pickles.

Pickles was subsequently awarded the National Canine Defense League silver medal.

On December 19, 1983, the trophy was stolen again from the Brazilian Football Confederation headquarters in Rio de Janeiro and was never recovered.
