What was the name of the first king who unified Egypt?

According to credible sources, the first real king of Egypt, therefore ruling over the unified land, was Narmer, who would have ruled Egypt around 3100 BC. Narmer was also known as Menes; but, there is little if any archaeological basis for the name Menes.
