What year did Martin Luther King receive the Nobel Peace Prize?

Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs.

On October 14, 1964, King received the Nobel Peace Prize for combating racial inequality through nonviolence. In 1965, he helped to organize the Selma to Montgomery marches, and the following year he and SCLC took the movement north to Chicago to work on segregated housing.

I was with him in Selma before the march to Montgomery and was fortunate enough to hear him speak several times in Brown Chapel. He was the most charismatic person I have ever heard. Actually, more than his Christian beliefs, it was Gandhi that influenced his belief in non-violent protest.

You should have mentioned that SCLC is the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Without prior mention, not everyone would recognize or understand that acronym.

Named after Martin Luther after his father learned about him during a visit to Germany. On his return to the USA, King Senior changed the name of himself and his son to Martin Luther King. They were both called Michael King beforehand.

What a remarkable human being..people like him come once in a hundred years..he had a dream indeed with words like "A man should be judged by the content of his character and not by the colour of his skin" Black Lives Matter take note..he never mentioned what skin colour.
