What year did the Berlin Wall fall?
The infamous fall of the Berlin Wall took place on the 9th of November, 1989. East and West Berliners had been protesting for decades, and on that day they were finally able to greet each other from the sides that had been separated for 28 years by this 155 kilometers long border. On midnight of that day, East Germany's Communist rulers gave permission for gates along the Wall to be opened. The crowds began to destroy the segments of the wall, climb on top of it and celebrate. Officially, demolition on the Wall began on June 13, 1990 and was completed in 1992.

I was in West Germany in 1988 and my daughter was there as an exchange student in 1989 and got a piece of the wall. I know. Who cares, right? Put your thumbs away. LOL

The fall of the Berlin Wall was also the inspiration for the Scorpions to compose "Wind of Change"

Ben Totuous It astonishes me that some Americans (Republicans) think the word 'progressive' is bad and insulting. Do they think 'regressive' is a compliment? :-/

Ben Totuous The Hoff claims credit for bringing the wall down and reuniting Germany. I am not making this up. Sod Trump, it's Hasselhoff you want in the White House.
Yes, as a socialist (even worse than a filthy liberal! Practically a communist!) I share your opinion of Führer Trump and his Neanderthal neo-fascist supporters. Their slogan should really be 'Make America white again!', but that would require some honesty. Ha!

Let nobody here try to perpetuate the ridiculous myth that Ronald Reagan had anything to do with it.

Rick Shomin, in your dreams. Drag in some crediblly sourced supporting information to support your laughable assertion. That means no wingnut rags. The fact is, the world laughed at Raygun. His pathetic acting gig in the White House was funnier than playing second fiddle to that chimp Bonzo.

I had just returned from Berlin in September of 89. Unfortunately I was not there for the fall off the wall that night. Back in Berlin in early of 1990, we brought back "tons" of wall lol. Everybody back in US wanted a piece. We hammered and chiseled the pieces out ourselves. Naturally we only brought back wall with graffiti. Later on we found out that the wall was built with lots of asbestos, so we had to encapsulate our pieces. We also brought back Russian uniform hats and other items the Russian soldiers were freely selling.
As a Berliner, I know the financial problems the communist government had, but believe that Reagan's speech was very influential - definitely not the deciding factor though. The communist regime had to fall eventually. It was totally bankrupt. It was an example that communism does not work!!!

I was in East Berlin the day before the official reunification, and helped to take down some of the Berlin wall.

Lydia Coutts, Teddy Roosevelt was a Progressive who sent our Navy around the globe in a show of strength. Barack Obama is a Liberal who sold our arms to Muslims in an act of treason. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE!
