When was Sony founded?

Sony began in the wake of World War II. In 1946, Masaru Ibuka started an electronics shop in a department store building in Tokyo. The company had the equivalent of $530 in capital and a total of eight employees. The following year he was joined by his colleague, Akio Morita, and they founded a company called Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation). The company built Japan's first tape recorder called the Type-G. In 1958, the company changed its name to "Sony".

The parent company was 1946, which continued with a re-branding. So technically, it was founded in the year noted, but renamed. Same company, different name. A slight rewording of the question would improve it... "When was the company, now known as Sony, founded?"

Japanese people are self reliant, self determine to win no matter whatever is the odds. By the the 19th century they are already an empire. What they call the empire of the sun. They occupied Korea by 1910-1945 a colony of Japan.
