Prague orloj (also known as the Prague astronomical clock) is a medieval clock located in the capital of the Czech Republic. The clock was first installed in the first half of the 15th century. Today it is the oldest still operating astronomical clock.

The mechanism of the clock is presented by three main components: the dial that represents the position of the Moon and the Sun; "The Walk of the Apostles", a clockwork hourly show of moving silhouettes; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. According to Czech legends, if the clock is neglected or stops operating, the city will suffer. We are glad the great clock is still operating!

This might be interesting: The blue part directly in the centre of the dial represents our planet, and the upper blue represents the endless sky which is above the horizon. Look at the picture: during the daytime, the sun sits over the blue part of the background and at night it sits over the black.
