In the 1941 film "The Maltese Falcon" the character Captain Jacoby was played by Walter Huston (uncredited). Executives from Warner Bros., the studio that produced the film, stated that the unbilled appearance of character actor Walter Huston, in a small cameo role as the freighter captain (Jacoby) who delivers the Falcon, was done as a good luck gesture for Walter's son, John Huston, on his film directorial debut.

In the classic film, detective Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) gets more than he bargained for when he takes a case brought to him by a beautiful but secretive woman (Mary Astor). As soon as Miss Wonderly shows up, trouble follows. Sam's partner is murdered, and Sam is accosted by a man named Joel Cairo (Peter Lorre). He wanted Sam to locate a valuable statuette. Sam becomes entangled in a dangerous web of crime and intrigue. He quickly realizes that he must find the one thing that they all really want: the bejeweled Maltese Falcon.
