In the TV show, The Fugitive, which first began in September 1963 until August 1967, Dr. Richard Kimble (David Jansen) is hounded by police authorities, most notably by police Lieutenant Philip Gerard (Barry Morse). Before he was accused of murder, Dr. Kimble was a pediatrician from Stafford, Indiana. Also he had served as a Reservist and Corpsman in the U.S. Army. His Reserve unit was called up for action in the Korea War. He played an active part of this war.

In this TV series "The Fugitive," Kimble is falsely accused of murdering his wife, and so he must subsequently escape from Lt. Gerard. Dr. Kimble then spends the next four years eluding this determined detective. He (Kimble) is hunting a one-armed man (played by Bill Raisch); he saw and believes this man to be the real killer. As a doctor or average guy, he always helps people. While on the run, he still continues to help people when he sees the need. He even might have to face a personal conflict when he does so.

In the series finale, which was broadcast in August 1967, it made TV history. The ABC show was seen by more than 72% of all TV viewers, a record that stood until "Dallas" eclipsed it 13 years later. In the climactic scene, police Lieutenant Philip Gerard shoots the one-armed man to save Dr. Kimble's life.
