Battleships are important factors of military strategies of different countries. Warships played a critical part in the course of WWII, and every country participating was trying to improve their technologies and build powerful and functional ships.

During WWII Japan created the largest armored battleships in the history of vessel building. The two ships were called Musashi and Yamato. The first one sunk in 1944 and the second one was as well destroyed in 1945. Both warships were destroyed by the American aircraft. Less than a half of the crew survived.

Yamato was the lead ship of the Yamato class of Imperial Japanese Navy World War II battleships. She and Musashi, were the heaviest and the largest warships ever built, displacing 72,800 tons at full load. They were also loaded with the biggest guns ever mounted on a battleship. Yamato used the guns only once in 1944.
