Corfu, with an area of 585.312 km², is the second largest of the Ionian Islands and the seventh largest in Greece.

Throughout the history of modern Greece, the current flag of Greece was in constant competition with a simple blue flag with a white cross. It wasn't until 1978 that the current design became the sole national flag of the country.

The national flag consists of nine equally wide horizontal stripes of blue and white. In the upper left corner is a white cross on a blue square. The side length of the square corresponds to the width of five of the horizontal stripes, and the white cross is the width of one of these stripes.
