Which historical figure is the capital city of North Carolina named after?

Sir Walter Raleigh (1554 – 29 October 1618) was an English landed gentleman, writer, poet, soldier, politician, courtier, spy, and explorer.

He rose rapidly in the favour of Queen Elizabeth I and was knighted in 1585. Raleigh was instrumental in the English colonisation of North America and was granted a royal patent to explore Virginia, which paved the way for future English settlements.

The state capital of North Carolina, its second-largest city, was named Raleigh in 1792 after Sir Walter, sponsor of the Roanoke Colony. In the city, a bronze statue, which has been moved around different locations within the city, was cast in honour of the city's namesake. The statue is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city and, of course, one of its recognized symbols.

I just wanted to note something to the Quizzclub members. I haven't been on Quizzclub as long as some of the real die-hard players but, I just passed the 50,000th point. I lived in North Carolina for a couple years I couldn't remember if Raleigh or Charlotte was the capital, but, since Charlotte wasn't one of the choices the question was easy. I now live in East Tennessee, which used to be part of North Carolina.

Suzy Whoo, He also introduced tobacco to England, and profited from it, as did a number of influential people in the state he founded. Does it matter whether the cigarette brand was named for he himself or for the city that was named for him? Hair-splitting for no reason.
