Which is the smallest city (by population) in the United Kingdom?
All of these are official cities and all are compact. St David's (in Wales) has a population of about 1,800, Wells (in England) about 10,500, Armagh (N. Ireland) about 15,000 and Stirling (Scotland) is a giant among pygmies at around 36,000. The 10 smallest UK cities according to their population in the latest census are:

Haven't been to the rest but Stirling is a gorgeous little city and the entire history of Scotland centres around Stirling and Stirling bridge.

Charles Williams, The City of London is not the same as The Greater London Area, which also includes the City of Westminster.

John D Thomas, Further to your comment, (Greater) London was NEVER officially declared a city, although it's now assumed to be..so the two official cities remain the aforementioned City of London and the City of Westminster. 🌝

In this case, what qualifies St. David or any other city in Europe for that matter is that it have an “Official Cathedral” within its city limits. St.David is a beautiful but quaint little city in the South of Wales! Been there a coupe of times.
