The name of the popular drink tequila sounds a lot like Agave tequilana, the scientific name of the plant commonly known as blue agave. As the main ingredient of tequila, blue agave became an irreplaceable economic product of the state of Jalisco, Mexico. A lot of sugar (fructose) is produced in the core of the plant, and that makes it suitable for the preparation of one of the world's favorite drinks and other alcoholic beverages. Today genuine tequila is produced only from blue agave plants.
