The attempted assassination of U.S. President Ronald Reagan occurred on on the 30th of March, 1981.The president was leaving a speaking engagement at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Reagan and three others were shot and wounded by John Hinckley Jr.

John Hinckley's motives weren't connected with presidential work or politics at all. The thing was that John had suffered depression and obsessive tendencies from the very young age, and his mental illness reached its peak in the 1970s. He became obsessed with Jodie Foster, a popular American actress. John was stalking Jodie after her appearance in the film Taxi Driver and tried to impress her several times. He was thinking of Jodie as of Juliet, imagining himself her Romeo.

The assassination was his last attempt. There were no fatalities in the immediate aftermath of the attack. Reagan was shot in the chest, just below the left underarm. He suffered a punctured lung and heavy internal bleeding, but prompt medical attention allowed him to recover quickly.
