Due to his public legal reputation, Benjamin Crump has been referred to as "Black America's Attorney General". Benjamin Lloyd "Ben" Crump (b. October 10, 1969) is an American attorney who specializes in civil rights and catastrophic personal injury cases such as wrongful death lawsuits. He is a nationally recognized US trial lawyer. Crump led the George Floyd family's legal team in a case that got worldwide attention. He and his law firm are known for fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves. Crump says, "My firm represents individuals in painful situations and is dedicated to holding the powerful accountable for taking advantage of those who don’t have any power."
Ben Crump was born in Lumberton, North Carolina, near Fort Bragg. He grew up in an extended family and was raised by his grandmother. He went to South Plantation High school in Plantation, Florida where he lived with his mother's second husband, a math teacher, whom Crump regards as his father. Crump attended Florida State University and received two degrees, a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1992 and a Juris Doctor in 1995. He is now licensed to practice law in the state of Florida.
Crump, 51, is a tireless worker. He mixes Southern charm and a talent for attracting media attention to win cases. Crump has a very firm belief that racism in US can be defeated. As of 2021, he has been practicing law for nearly 25 years and has won more than 200 cases relating to police brutality.
