Fernando Tatís, Jr. who was born on January 1, 1975 is a U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) professional player. Over his 11 year MLB career, he played for the Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, Montreal Expos, Baltimore Orioles, and the New York Mets.

Tatis, Jr. achieved a Major League record by hitting two (2) grand slam home runs in one inning during a game on April 23, 1999, becoming the only player in Major League history to do so.

Tatis,Jr. hit both of his grand slams as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals against the pitcher Chan Ho Park of the Los Angeles Dodgers. With his home run feat, he also set a Major League record with eight runs batted in during a single inning.

Liz Carret, You can easily look this up online. For a player to bat twice in a single inning doesn't happen in every game, however it is not uncommon. Batting a third time, of course, happens much less often, but a handful of players have done it.

As a Cardinals fan, I knew this one. But, it was Senior not Junior! Junior was born in 1999. He's pretty danged good, but not good enough to hit 2 grand slams before he is one year old!

Good news is the even actually did happen! Sadly, the author is crediting the wrong man! Fernando Tatis hit the 2 grand slam homeruns, not his son.

Not exactly. Tatis Jr is a CURRENT player on the Padres. The one who accomplished the feat is his father, not Junior.

mrbrownslc, See Merl's answer. Nothing to do with batting out of order. The team continues to bat through the rotation until there are 3 outs. Although rare, it is possible to bat even more than twice in an inning (although even twice is pretty rare).
