Who played drums on the Beatles 1st "Album" version of Love Me Do?

While George Martin was not sure of Ringo Starr's drumming ability, he hired session drummer Andy White to sit in and drum on the Album version of "Love Me Do", while Ringo played the tambourine. Ringo did however play drums on the single version of "Love Me Do". The lyrics for the song were written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon at their young age (16 and 17). They created a lot of songs before, but, as they decided, it was the first one worth recording. That's how the song about McCartney's girlfriend of those times became the first single of probably the best known British band.

dmarkc. Unfortunately, there is no record of him playing for the Beatles and Brian Epstein denied that he had hired him at all. Also, on the dates Love Me Do was recorded, Purdie was recording in New York.

As long as I've been around, the Beatles' story has evolved. Renowned session drummer Bernard Purdie claimed in an interview with Gig magazine that he had overdubbed drums for 21 Beatles recordings in the summer of 1963. He claims Epstein paid him for the sessions and his silence. He didn't need the fame, but credit where it's due, right? Will we ever know the whole story?

Used 50/50 I knew it wasn't Ringo but couldn't remember who did. I was left with Charlie Watts and Andy White and I knew Charlie would never have played for the Beatles.

Wayne Linburg, The rest of the Beatles wanted Ringo in the band because being a left handed drummer, he didn't sound like other drummers, thus his patterns were different.
