It took nearly an entire season for the first two-point defensive conversion to go into the National Football League record books. Stephone Anthony scored two for the New Orleans Saints in their December 6, 2015 game against the Carolina Panthers in NFL Week 13, at home.

In 2015, the NFL introduced the defensive two-point conversion. In this situation, when the offensive team scores a touchdown and its one- or two-point conversion attempt is a blocked (kick), intercepted (pass), or recovered (fumble) before going out of bounds, the defensive team can return it to the other team’s end zone for two points.

Graham Gano’s one-point conversion kick attempt was blocked by the Saints’ Kevin Williams. Anthony picked up the loose ball and turned one Panther point into two Saint points by running it the length of the field.

Drafted by the Saints in 2015, Anthony, an aggressive linebacker, recorded his first sack (tackling the offensive team’s ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage for a net loss in yardage and loss of down) On October 4, as the Saints defeated the Dallas Cowboys.

In the Saints’ next-to-last game of the 2015 season, the 15th, Anthony forced a fumble against the Detroit Lions and recorded his 100th tackle of the season. He was named to the Pro Football Writers’ All-Rookie Team.
