Who was known as the "Father of information theory"?

Claude Elwood Shannon is considered not only the founder of information theory, but also the father of electronic communications age. Today's generation can't live without computer industry and communications, and we may thank this talented scientist for his substantial contribution to the future.

Shannon was born on the 30th of April, 1916. He became interested in mathematics and science at the very young age, as his grandfather was an outstanding inventor, who always shared his experience with his curious grandson. Having grown up, Shannon studied maths, cryptography and developed information theory with his prominent paper published in 1948. The mathematical theory of communication was the climax of Shannon's mathematical and engineering investigations. One of the most important feature of Shannon's theory was the concept of entropy, which he demonstrated to be equivalent to a shortage in the information content in a message.
