Who was the famous architect that designed St. Paul's Cathedral, which is located in London, England?

All the tourists, visiting London nowadays, long to see one of the city's most recognizable symbols - St. Paul's Cathedral. It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren, one of the most influential and respected architects of his epoch. The construction of the famous cathedral was completed in Wren's lifetime and was a part of a global rebuilding program in the City after the Great Fire of London in 1666, for which Wren was responsible. Sir Christopher managed the reconstruction of more than 50 London churches, but St. Paul's is still considered the greatest of his creations.

The famous masterpiece was built in English Baroque style. Its dome, one of the highest in the world, dominated the skyline for 300 years, being the tallest building of the capital from 1710 to 1962 (365 feet (111 m) high).

Yikes! Talk about a misplaced clause. "a global rebuilding program in the City after the Great Fire of London in 1666, for which Wren was responsible" should read "a global rebuilding program in the City, for which Wren is responsible, after the Great Fire of London in 1666." Written the other way it implys that Christopher Wren started the fire!

Knowing nothing about Christopher Wren before this, my impression was that he did start the fire. =-)

Downstairs in the “Crypt Room” are many ornate/elaborate tombs. But in one corner is a plain concrete slab marking Wren’s tomb. It reads, “If you want to see a monument to me, look around you.”

Wren actually built St Paul's with a smaller dome. Politicians of the day wanted a much larger dome. This was built over the top of Wren's dome thus creating the famous Whispering Gallery
