Arnold Palmer, who was born in 1929 and died in 2016, was a native of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He made golf popular with many people in general public. His fans were known as "Arnie's Army." He won seven majors, including four Masters, and was the first golfer in 1968 to make one million dollars in career earnings on the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) of America Tour.

It has been said that Palmer was more of a celebrity than he was a great golfer. He had fantastic performances on the golf course and won many majors. Yet, he also won most of his memorable honors in less than seven seasons (from 1957 to 1964).

Regarding Palmer's legacy, fellow golf competitor, Jack Nicklaus may have put it best. He said, "Arnold transcended the game of golf. He was more than a golfer or even great golfer. He was an icon. He was a legend. Arnold was someone who was a pioneer in his sport. He took the game from one level to a higher level, virtually by himself."
