Who was the first woman to serve as Attorney General of the US?
Janet Wood Reno became the first woman to serve as the Attorney General of the US. Her term lasted from 1993 to 2001, which also made her the longest-serving Attorney General since 1829.
Reno had to face with numerous difficulties in her work, but she became one of the most respectable members of the presidential administration. She launched different innovative projects and programs, designed, for example, to steer non-violent drug offenders away from jail. Reno's outstanding achievements set a wonderful example and broke ground for all modern American women.

There's a good chance she is the longest serving AG, ever. In 1821, the President did not assume office till March, whereas in 1993, it was January. However, William Wirt was appointed by 2 presidents serving 12 years, relegating Janet to 2nd place.
