Martin Van Buren was born on the 5th of December in the state of New York, 1782 and baptized as Maarten Van Buren. The family had Dutch origins. His parents lived in the isolated village of Kinderhook. Most of the population of the village spoke Dutch at home, and so did the Van Burens. That's why English became Martin's second language.

The 8th President of the United States was also the first commander-in-chief to be born after the independence, which made him the first American-born president. He held office until the 4th of March, 1841. After the end of his term Martin retired to Kinderhook to get old and die there in 1862.

In fact, Martin wanted to become a president again, but failed at the 1844 and 1848 elections. He spent another 20 years of his life in peace at his estate, working as a farmer.
