Voice actor and puppeteer Tim Blaney was the voice of the living robot Johnny 5 in both "Short Circuit" (1986) and its sequel "Short Circuit 2" (1988).

The highly successful films centered around the escapades of a robot programmed for military use that becomes alive after a freak lightning strike alters its components. The robot, who takes the name Johnny 5, is child-like, naïve, self-aware and inquisitive and gains knowledge by reading books, listening to the radio and watching late-night television.

The first film starred Ally Sheedy, Steve Guttenberg and Fisher Stevens. The sequel starred Stevens, Cynthia Gibb and Michael McKean.

Blaney was born on April 23, 1959 in Connecticut, USA as Timothy Patrick Blaney. In addition to his work on the Short Circuit films, he also worked in Men in Black (1997) and Men in Black II (2002).

Short Circuit debuted at No. 1 in the US box office. It grossed a total of $40,697,761, ranking it 21st for 1986 in the United States; it performed slightly better than other 1986 hits like Pretty in Pink, The Fly, Three Amigos, Little Shop Of Horrors and About Last Night.
