Who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 and 1972?

John Bardeen (May 23, 1908 – January 30, 1991) was an American physicist and electrical engineer. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 with William Shockley and Walter Brattain for the invention of the transistor. He also won the Nobel Prize In Physics in 1972 with Leon Cooper and John Schrieffer for a fundamental theory of conventional superconductivity known as the BCS theory.

As the Nobel is given only to living people, the choice became obvious. I knew nothing of john Bardeen. But Marie Curie was long dead by 1956 , Einstein was dead in 1972 . Hawkings was a toddler in 1956

samanareid, John Bardeen was the only one who won two Nobel prizes IN PHYSICS. There have been others who have won two Nobel prizes. Marie won a Nobel prize in Physics and another Nobel prize in Chemistry. Linus Pauling won a Nobel prize in Chemistry and another Nobel prize in Peace.

John Bardeen was the only person to win 2 Nobel prizes in physics. He was one of the greatest condensed matter physicists; particularly in the areas of solid state physics and low temperature physics. He was also a great electrical engineer.
