William Conrad voiced the role of Marshal Matt Dillon on the "Gunsmoke" radio program from 1952 until 1961. Conrad had the perfect voice for radio to project a larger than life presence, and was one of radios most prolific actors claiming to have performed in more than 7,500 radio programs. Conrad became a television producer, director and actor. According to a "TV Episode List" published on Gunsmoke:The Great American Western he directed two episodes of the television series on April 13,1963 and January 4,1971. He also did voice over narration for other television programs such as the "Rocky & Bullwinkle Show" (1959-1964) and "The Fugitive" (1963-1967). In the 70's he played the role of Private Investigator Frank Cannon in the television series "Cannon" (1971-1976), and during the late 80's and early 90's he played the role of J.L. McCabe in the series "Jake and the Fatman" (1987-1992).
