A two-day bicycle ride usually held on Mother's Day weekend has attracted up to 6000 cyclists for the event. The riders cycle 105 miles {170 km} for each of the two days. The Tour of the Scioto River Valley {TOSRV} was the original big cycling event in the United States, preceding such events as RAGBRAI, the Five Borough Bike Tour, Seattle to Portland, and Cycle Oregon. It is held in southern Ohio, with the route following close to the Scioto River from Columbus to the Ohio River on Saturday and returning on Sunday. Most cyclists camp for the overnight, but gymnasium floor and hotel accommodations for some are possible.

Riders are supported with food and drink stops, luggage shuttle, and sag vehicles. Cycle mechanics help out at various places along the route. Being a rather long ride for the early part of the season, the cycling time to complete the ride varies dramatically for the many riders who take part. Imagine feeding 6000 hungry cyclists after a ride of 100+ miles {170+ km} in a single day! TOSRV has had several off-shoots. TOSRV-West, based in Missoula, MT follows the Swan River Valley . The Tour of Rural Scenic Vermont was an off-take for several years. In Alaska, the Tour of the Susitna River Valley lasted for a couple of years, The Tour of Southern Rural Vistas in Georgia, and TOSRV-South in Florida, among others, have satisfied cyclists looking for places to share riding adventures. The 2020 TOSRV event in Ohio was rescheduled for later in the year.
