The man behind the curtain in the film "The Wizard of Oz" is revealed by which movie character?
Toto is a dog in the 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz". The film based on the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz " which is in L. Frank Baum's Oz series of children's books. Toto belongs to Dorothy Gale, the heroine of the first book and many subsequent books. She is also one of the stars in the film; she is played by Judy Garland.
Toto was originally a small terrier drawn by W. W. Denslow for the first edition of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" (1900). In the first book, he never spoke, although other animals, native to Oz, did. In subsequent books, other animals gained the ability to speak upon reaching Oz or similar lands, but Toto remained speechless.
In the film, when Toto bites the wealthy Almira Gulch, Miss Gulch obtains a sheriff's order authorizing her to seize the dog to be euthanized. Toto escapes from Miss Gulch and returns to Dorothy, who runs away to protect the animal. Much later, after Dorothy and Toto make it to the city of Oz, it is Toto who reveals the man (the Wizard) behind the curtain. The Wizard is revealed to be just an ordinary man, operating machinery that projects the ghostly image of his face.
Toto (Terry, November 1933 – September 1945) was a female Cairn Terrier performer who appeared in many different movies. She most famously was Toto in "The Wizard of Oz". It was her only credited role, though she was credited not as Terry but as Toto.
